Write or Draw for The Fish
The Fish welcomes submissions! Generally, issues are organized around a central theme (e.g., love, science and faith), and content will be expected to relate to the issue's theme. Contact a member of the editorial staff for details on themes of upcoming issues. You may also want to browse past issues to see themes recently covered and to get a sense of the style and usage we prefer.
Articles should run 500-750 words. Generally we publish one or two longer "feature" articles per issue; these should run 1,000-1,500 words. We prefer to receive articles in Microsoft Word or RTF--if you have complex formatting requirements (e.g., line indentations for poetry) please contact the Editor-in-Chief or Layout Editor prior to submission. Articles will be closely edited by members of our staff, and authors may be asked to substantially revise their work in both form and content.
Artwork and Photography can be either color or B&W, although printing costs usually require reserving color submissions for front and back covers. Submissions should be in a format suitable for inclusion in our layout program (Adobe InDesign). Our production staff may need to crop and resize to fit page requirements.
We regularly publish a list of Churches of interest to our readers. This list is not intended to be exhaustive and is limited by formatting requirements, but if you would like to suggest a church for inclusion, please contact the Editor-in-Chief.
We do accept submissions previously published elsewhere, provided that you are willing to revise them (sometimes radically) to fit our style and standards. You must own the copyright(s) on the work.
Work for The Fish
A well-crafted article, much less an entire magazine, is never a solo project. The Fish is always looking for additional editors, layout designers, and other staff: speak with one of the editors and join the Fish listhost.
Donate to The Fish
If you enjoy reading The Fish, would you consider making a financial contribution? Although the University graciously subsidizes part of our printing costs, we rely on outside funding to cover the gap. Donations are tax-deductible. Contact the Editor-in-Chief or Business Manager for further details.
